Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions
Is it free to use Umoja?
Yes. Browsing adverts and contacting sellers is completely free, and there are no hidden charges. Umoja takes no cut of your sale.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no signup and no login. You can browse every advert and contact any seller without registering. Your favourites are saved in your own browser, not on our servers.
How do I contact a seller?
On an advert page, tap "Show Number" to reveal the phone number, then call or message on WhatsApp. The number is not shown immediately because we rate-limit reveals to stop automated bulk harvesting.
How do I buy safely?
Meet in a busy public place in daylight. Inspect the item yourself before you pay. Take someone with you for anything expensive. Do not go alone to a stranger’s home.
How does payment work?
Payment happens directly between you and the seller. Umoja does not process payments, does not hold your money, and offers no buyer protection or refunds. Paying on collection, once you have the item in hand, is the safest option.
Is there shipping or delivery?
Umoja does not ship anything. Delivery is whatever you and the seller agree. If a seller asks you to pay for delivery before you have met, treat that as a serious warning sign — it is a common scam.
How do I spot a scam?
Warning signs: a price far below the market, pressure to pay quickly, a request to pay by an untraceable method, refusal to meet or to show the item, and any deposit asked for before you have seen it. If something feels wrong, walk away.
How do I report a suspicious advert?
Tap "Report" on the advert page — it opens your email application with the advert's details already filled in. You can also write to us directly at support@umoja.ug.
What items are prohibited?
Illegal goods, counterfeits, controlled drugs, weapons, human organs, endangered wildlife, identity documents, adult content, and anything infringing intellectual property. We remove such adverts when we find them.
Where do these adverts come from?
Most adverts on Umoja are sourced from a partner platform operating in Uganda. We do not verify the items, inspect their condition, or check a seller's identity.
I am a seller — how do I remove my advert or my number?
Write to support@umoja.ug and we will remove your advert or your personal details. You do not need an account to make that request.
How do I save adverts I like?
Tap the heart icon on any advert. Favourites are stored in your browser only, so they are available on that device and disappear if you clear your browser data.
